College of Alameda’s Center for Applied Learning offers students, community members and lifelong learners the opportunity to apply what they learn in the college classroom to real-world situations and projects. Whether you want to develop a new career, update your skills, or do community-based work, the Center for Applied Learning will help you to transform your learning into action.

Some of the courses offered through the Center may be part of a College of Alameda Associate’s Degree program. Others are fee-based, noncredit courses designed for skills upgrade, and may offer continuing education credits or skills certification. Some allow you to complete your studies off-campus, either at your home computer or at your workplace.

Are you interested in earning a degree?

• Basic skills: Learning English through culture
  Three new culture-based learning communities help you to develop basic skills using curricula and teaching methods that are responsive to the culture and legacy of African American, Latino, or Asian/Pacific American students. . .

• Community Development & Leadership
  This service learning/cooperative education program allows you to earn a Certificate in Change Agency or a pre-university Associate in Arts degree while learning skills that prepare you to organize and run campaigns for social change. . .

Do you need career certification, technical training, or continuing education credits?

• Certification and continuing education programs
  Various career training programs at the college collaborate with certifying organizations to conduct fee-based courses that provide professional certification or continuing education in specialized fields. . .

Do you or your employees need to upgrade skills, but find that coming to campus isn’t convenient?

• Ed2go fee-based online courses
  College of Alameda, in partnership with Education To Go, offers a wide range of six-week, noncredit courses that you can take entirely over the Internet. . .
